About 256Bip - The Brazilian Social Network

Who we are, why we exist and how the network works — in plain language.

Published on · Updated on

Built for quick conversations, with no algorithms dictating your feed, no ads, no promotions, no influencers begging for likes — just real people focused on entertainment and socialising.

Why 256Bip?

Before smartphones, there were bips — the famous pagers. Small devices that only received text messages: short, direct, with no infinite feed or autoplay video.

When we built the network, the name came from that analogy: 256 recalls the classic limit of up to 256 characters per message, and bip recalls that quiet “beep” telling you someone wrote to you.

The goal has always been the same: to encourage writing small texts, understanding (read before you react) and interaction between people — not trapping your eyes on endless scrolling.

What you find on the network

  • Feed — publish, read, comment, like, repost and share Bips (posts of up to 256 characters).
  • Communities — themed groups with their own conversation (browse communities).
  • Profiles — follow people, free verification badges (by proof, not subscription) and profile extras.
  • Messages — private encrypted chats (Messages).
  • Scheduled — queue Bips to publish later.
  • Extras — thoughts/quotes, horoscope, news, radio and other modules added over time.

Posting limits, BiP lifecycle, allowed links and conduct rules are in the Terms of Use — required reading when you join.

How to access

Short text, reading and interaction

  • 256 characters on Bips, replies and bio — forces you to sharpen the idea.
  • Threaded comments — dialogue, not just a lone reaction.
  • BipTags — mark topics; the tag does not eat your 256 characters.
  • Thoughts — pick or write quotes and turn them into images for feed or stories.

We prefer less noise and more substance than endless ready-made media.

No ads and no paid boost

  • No platform ads in the feed, communities or messages.
  • No sponsored Bips — we do not sell reach or “paid prominence”.
  • No selling data to advertisers — see Privacy.

Spam and abusive promotion still break the Terms; the difference is the platform does not monetise your attention.

Feed and community

The feed is 100% chronological: newest first, post after post, with no scoring, no ranking and no algorithm deciding for you. There is no podium, no "trending" — and nothing you do pushes a BiP up or down the list.

  • You take part — likes and dislikes are for the person who posted, not for the order of the feed. A dislike has one single consequence: at 10 of them, the BiP is removed automatically (see the Terms).
  • Your visibility — public, followers only or just you when you post.
  • Communities — themed forums with rules; we do not replace them with infinite video feeds.
  • Lifecycle — old Bips leave the air after the periods in the Terms; the archive does not grow forever.

People, messages and badges

  • Real names at sign-up; day to day we prioritise your first name in the feed and chats — @ is your account address, not a cold handle.
  • Messages — free inbox; anti-spam as in the Terms.
  • Badges (new, blue, green, golden) — verification by identity or merit; not bought via subscription.
  • Reports and moderation — community tools plus staff; conduct in the Terms.
